Weight of the Gear

Just how heavy is the gear? I would imagine once one is in the air the weight seems like a non-issue since all you'll be concerned about is will it open. But still you sit around a long time in the gear before the actual jump? How uncomfortable is that part of the experience?

I'm not sure just how heavy it is and I can't seem to find an answer online either. I know that you tend to sit on benches in the plane, though, so you're not really holding the gear up yourself the whole time. And then yes, when you jump, it won't feel heavy at all.
